Fine grain and micro-texture excel in 300 DPI print, sublimation, and screen print rather than small vinyl weeding.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Sports Varsity is a bold collegiate slab with cracked ink texture and a matching set of athletic numerals, drawn for arched team layouts. The slabs are stout, the arch is achieved by the designer rather than the font, and the distress sits on the surface so the letters keep a solid silhouette at a distance. Numerals are cut to the same weight as the caps, which lets a jersey number sit next to a team name without a second face. It needs roughly 20 mm for the crack texture to read, and it is at its best in one light colour on a dark garment.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Sports Varsity’s stroke geometry.
Matching numerals let a shirt carry a name and a number from one family, which is what a school team needs and rarely gets. Cracked slabs read as screen print that has been through seasons.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Shirt print 300 x 200 mm arched over a 240 mm width, name 45 mm, number 160 mm, 40 mm from the collar. Banner 1200 x 400 mm, word 200 mm, 100 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Cracked fills close on a high-mesh screen and the texture disappears, leaving a plain varsity letter. Specify 110 mesh or coarser, and approve a strike-off on the actual garment colour.
The distress gives a club a mark that looks inherited rather than bought, which is what small athletic clubs want on merch. One ink keeps a banner affordable at full size.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Crewneck print 260 x 140 mm, name 45 mm, 60 mm from the collar. Banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 340 mm, 120 mm margins, eyelets every 500 mm. Sticker 80 x 50 mm, word 16 mm, 3 mm die margin.
Pre-production check
Banners are printed at 720 dpi and a cracked texture can band into visible steps at 340 mm. Request a 1:1 crop proof of one letter, and check for stepping before the run.
Varsity slabs carry the weight of a full season, which makes an end-of-season gift feel earned rather than bought. The numerals let a year or a record sit as a graphic element.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Shirt print 260 x 140 mm, surname 45 mm, year numerals 60 mm. Plaque 300 x 200 mm, word 40 mm engraved, 25 mm margins. Card 148 x 105 mm, greeting 14 mm, message 7/10 pt.
Pre-production check
Plaques are engraved with a solid silhouette, and the distressed edge becomes an invented chewed line. Supply a clean version for engraving and keep the cracked cut for fabric only.
