Hollow collegiate slab with offset edge
Shadow Varsity is a hollow collegiate slab in cream and navy on an aged paper ground: caps drawn as contours with a solid offset edge behind, heavy slab serifs, a star between two rules above and a ribbon banner beneath naming the cut, with a numeral row in the middle of the sheet.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The two words are stacked with a numeral row between them, which is the useful test for a sports face: the buyer can see the letters and the figures at the same size, and the figures carry the same slab construction. The hollow contour with a solid offset behind gives the block depth, and because the offset is a separate element it can be printed in a second colour or dropped for a flat version. The star, the rules and the ribbon banner are period furniture from the athletic tradition, and the numerals below show that the family covers the characters a jersey needs. Because the contour is thin, the face needs a large size, and the plate sets the block as wide as the sheet allows.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Shadow Varsity’s stroke geometry.
A hollow collegiate face with an offset edge reads as layered applique, and the numerals prove the family covers what a banner actually needs.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print 1,400 by 500 mm: the name at 170 mm cap height, the year in a 70 mm numeral row, and two colours with a 5 mm offset. Keep 30 mm margins and print on a light vinyl.
Pre-production check
Check the banner at twelve metres, where a 5 mm offset can vanish; keep it above 9 mm. Confirm the numeral row reads at six metres and that the eyelets clear the block.
A layered collegiate mark reads as a badge, and the offset edge converts to a second embroidery colour without redrawing the letters.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 65 mm on a pennant, 28 mm on a patch and 13 mm on a card, keeping the offset only above 30 mm. Hold clear space equal to the offset on every side.
Pre-production check
Check the 13 mm card mark, where the contour closes; drop the offset at that size. Confirm the 28 mm patch reads in stitch and that the pennant reads at six metres.
A layered varsity face prints as two passes and looks like official kit, which is what a class shirt needs rather than a novelty display.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 260 mm chest graphic: the class year at 70 mm cap height, the name at 30 mm, and two inks with a 3 mm offset. Keep the contour at 3 mm and place the graphic 80 mm below the collar.
Pre-production check
Check the screen at actual mesh, where a 3 mm contour can fill; thicken it. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the offset stays even after five cycles.
