Visual anatomy & craft review
Sketch Cartoon is a hand-hatched kids cartoon face drawn in coloured pencil and crayon: wobbly rounded letters with visible pencil hatching inside the stroke, uneven edges that catch the paper tooth and a light crayon fill that never quite meets the outline. The hatching is the design and it fills into a solid tone once the face is reduced. It needs roughly 28 mm for the hatch and the paper tooth to read, and it is best as a two-colour print on uncoated stock, or one ink on textured paper where the tooth prints as grain.

A crayon cartoon face reads as a child's own drawing rather than a purchased card. The hatching holds at 44 mm on an invite, and two inks print the invite and the labels as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 40 mm with 8 mm hatch clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 48 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Bag label 80 x 50 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 80 x 50 mm bag label at 14 mm fills the hatching into a solid tone and the greeting reads as a smear. Raise the label word to 20 mm, and print one label before the batch.
A crayon face turns a children's page into its own drawing. The hatching holds at 52 pt on an uncoated page, and two inks keep the outline separate from the crayon fill.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Header 52 pt with 8 mm hatch clearance, body 12/17 pt over two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins and a 12 mm head. Cover flash 90 x 60 mm, word 32 pt, 6 mm margins. Activity title 36 pt.
Pre-production check
At 36 pt on the activity title the hatching silts and the title reads as a flat block. Keep the face at 46 pt and above, and proof one page at 1:1.
A crayon face reads as a teacher's own lettering rather than a printed notice, which is what a primary wall wants. The hatching holds at 140 mm on a display, and two inks print the display and the stickers in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Display 1200 x 400 mm, letters 160 mm with 12 mm hatch clearance, 20 mm margins. Name card 105 x 75 mm, name 20 mm, 5 mm margins. Reward sticker 50 mm round, word 10 mm, 3 mm die margin.
Pre-production check
At 20 mm on a name card the hatching turns to dirt and the name looks smudged after a term of handling. Raise cards to 26 mm and laminate them, and make one before the class set.
