Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Crown Quest.

Crown Quest is an organic street-graffiti display that twists ribbon-flat marker strokes into fluid interlocking waves, with alternates and multilingual support, so a word reads as a tag painted in one continuous motion. The ribbons overlap each other, which means the letterforms have to stay large for the separation to read, and the alternates are what keep a repeat from looking like a pattern. It needs roughly 32 mm for the ribbons to separate, and it is best in an acid green or a single marker ink on washed black.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Crown Quest’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Streetwear drop print, deck graphic and shop vinyl

Ribbon-flat graffiti strokes read as a hand-painted tag, which is what a streetwear drop is imitating. The overlapping waves fill a chest print without a background, and the alternates let a short brand name repeat across a deck without looking copied.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Chest print 280 x 160 mm, word 60 mm, 40 mm margins. Deck 210 x 810 mm, word 120 mm on a 200 mm centre panel. Window vinyl 900 x 300 mm, word 150 mm, 60 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A plastisol print at 60 mm bridges the gap between two overlapping ribbons and the word fuses into one shape. Keep 1.5 mm of separation in the artwork or raise the print to 75 mm, and approve a strike-off before the run.

Editorial & posters

Music-feature opener, gig poster and album sleeve

Fluid interlocking strokes read as movement, which is what a gig poster wants behind a band name. The waves fill a large panel in one ink, and the alternates give a repeat poster a different cut each time without a redesign.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Opener 420 x 297 mm, headline 120 mm, body 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Poster A2, word 280 mm, details 22/28 pt, 30 mm margins. Sleeve 312 x 312 mm, word 200 mm, credits 7 pt.

Pre-production check

The ribbons overlap on a sleeve and a 300 dpi raster file drops the thin ends into a grey blur. Supply vector art, keep a 0.5 mm minimum ribbon edge, and check one sleeve proof at final size.

Summer

Festival banner, site map header and wristband

Painted-wave lettering reads as a hand-made festival brand, which is what a small summer festival uses instead of a corporate identity. The waves hold at banner scale in one ink, and the alternates let each year's edition look slightly different from the same file.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Banner 3000 x 800 mm, word 420 mm, 200 mm margins and eyelets every 600 mm with 60 mm clear. Map header 1200 x 300 mm, word 140 mm, 50 mm margins. Wristband 250 x 25 mm, word 8 mm, 4 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A wristband at 8 mm cannot hold an overlapping ribbon and the word prints as a solid green bar on the wrist. Use the plain alternate on small formats, and check one printed band on a wrist before the gate run.
