Rough angular blackletter with a sweeping A foot
Arcanum is a mystical blackletter display face in mixed case, with tall ascenders, long entry flourishes on the first and last letters and a worn edge that looks printed from an old wood block.

Visual anatomy & craft review
Arcanum sits across the middle of a stained parchment ground in a warm brown, and the word begins with a long curl that sweeps in from the left margin and ends with a tail that turns back under the last letter. The lowercase keeps a blackletter rhythm with short ascenders and hooked shoulders, while the caps carry small spikes at the top. The fill is not flat: the strokes thin and thicken slightly and the edges break, which gives the shapes the look of an impression taken from a block that has been used many times. Under the word a single line in a small hand-lettered serif names the style in lowercase. The face is a title cut for fantasy books, games, invitations and labels, and it needs a decent size, because the worn edge that sells it at poster scale becomes dirty at 20 pt.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Arcanum’s stroke geometry.
The worn blockwork sets the period of the subject, and the long entry flourish gives a plain title page one drawn element without an illustration.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 152 by 229 mm title page: set the title at 42 pt across one row, keep 30 mm of clear ground beneath before the imprint at 9 pt, and hold 20 mm of margin from the opening curl to the left edge.
Pre-production check
Worn edges print as dirt at small sizes; print one page on the actual paper and check the contour before the signatures.
The lettering puts a whole evening in a medieval frame, and the warm brown on parchment stays readable where a black gothic on black would disappear.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 420 by 594 mm poster: set the event name at 110 pt across one row, keep 30 mm of clear ground beneath before the time at 14 pt, and hold 28 mm of margin so the closing tail stays inside the sheet.
Pre-production check
Warm browns shift on cheap stock; print one poster on the intended paper and compare the tone before the run.
The face gives a bottle an apothecary character, and the mixed case keeps a long herbal name legible on a narrow label where an all-caps blackletter would crowd.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 55 by 100 mm label: set the tonic name at 20 pt on one row, keep 8 mm of clear ground beneath before the volume at 4.5 pt, and hold 6 mm from the lowest tail to the die line.
Pre-production check
The worn edge fills on small labels; print one label on the real stock and check the letter shapes before the batch.
