Bold slab serif with bracketed slabs and a wide even colour
American Styles is a bold slab serif in which the slabs bracket into the stems, the weight stays even and the fit runs wide, so a two-word title reads as a printed pennant rather than as a headline.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The A carries a wide bar under a flat apex, the M keeps four stout stems, the S holds a bracketed spine, the T spreads a heavy arm and the E stacks three even slabs, all at a bold weight with bracketed serifs and almost no contrast. The bracketing is the character: each slab curves into its stem, which softens the word without losing weight at sign size. Because the counters stay open, the face reads from 22 pt in print and fills a banner at 200 pt, and it prints cleanly in one ink on uncoated stock. The flag background, the letter-spaced line above and the caption beneath are presentation; the blue and red display words are the face.

The bracketed slabs read across a field, and the even colour keeps a two-word banner headline legible at 120 mm printed in a single ink on vinyl.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a two-metre banner: set the headline at 120 mm, set the date line in a 30 mm caps line of the same face beneath, and keep 45 mm of border so the bracketed slabs are not trimmed by the hem.
Pre-production check
Bracketed slabs at banner size show every registration wobble; check the print and keep the colour solid rather than a built build.
The slab weight gives a brewery a mark with years behind it, and the wide fit keeps a two-word beer name on one line at 20 pt on a paper label in one ink.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 70 by 50 mm label: set the beer name at 20 pt, set the strength in a 7 pt slab beneath, and keep 5 mm from the die so the bracketed feet survive the cut.
Pre-production check
Bracketed feet cut by a small die lose their curve; check the imposed label and keep 4 mm of clear ground around the word.
The slab register suits a farm sale, and the heavy slabs read from a road at 100 mm on a painted board in one deep colour.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Paint a 900 by 300 mm board: set the words at 100 mm, keep 35 mm of border, and prime the board before the lettering pass so the bracketed serifs stay crisp in daylight.
Pre-production check
Unprimed board drinks the paint and blurs the bracketing; check a test patch before painting the whole word.
