Visual anatomy & craft review
American Sport is a tall condensed stadium sans with an inline outline: narrow squared stems, a fine rule running inside the contour and a flat shoulder that reads as a painted bleacher sign. The inline is the design and it closes first when the face shrinks or is embroidered, and the condensation packs a long name into one line. It needs roughly 28 mm for the inline rule to read, and it is best in one dark ink on white and heather grey, or a two-colour build where the inline is bare paper.

A condensed inline stadium sans reads as a painted scoreboard rather than a magazine headline, which is what a match report wants above a photograph. The inline holds a long club name on one line at 60 pt, and the flat shoulders align to the column grid.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Opener 210 x 297 mm, headline 60 pt with 6 mm inline clearance, standfirst 11/15 pt, body 9/13 pt in two columns, 18 mm margins. Scoreboard panel 120 x 80 mm, score 36 pt, teams 12 pt.
Pre-production check
At 12 pt inside the scoreboard the inline closes and the team abbreviation reads as a solid bar. Keep panel type at 16 pt and above, and proof one sports spread at 1:1.
A stadium inline sans reads as a track-and-field label rather than a fashion brand, which is what a small kit maker wants on a cap. The inline gives the mark a machined line at 20 mm, and one ink prints the kit and the card from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cap mark 60 mm wide, word 18 mm with 4 mm inline clearance, 5 mm margin. Kit print 250 x 200 mm, word 60 mm, 20 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On a 60 mm cap the embroidered inline frays into the twill and the mark reads as a solid pill. Use a flat woven patch without the inline, and approve one sample before the order.
A condensed inline sans reads as a league's painted field banner, which is what a summer competition wants at the boundary. The narrow stems hold a long club name at 160 mm, and one ink prints the banner and the fixture cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Field banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 160 mm with 12 mm inline clearance, 40 mm safe edge. Shirt back 300 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 20 mm margins. Fixture card 148 x 105 mm, header 24 mm, fixtures 9 mm.
Pre-production check
A 148 x 105 mm fixture card at 9 mm loses the inline and the dates read as a grey band. Set the card in a plain condensed sans and keep the face for fabric, then print one card before the batch.
