Layered college slab with arched line
Varsity Font is a layered college slab in gold and orange on navy: wide square serifs, flat-topped caps, a heavy white outline on both lines and a slight arch across the top, so the pair reads as an embroidered team patch rather than a plain headline.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Two words are stacked and the drawing is a college slab built for fabric: the serifs are blocks, the curves of the O and the S are squared, and each line carries a thick outline in a second colour, which is what makes the pair read as an appliqué patch. The top line is set on a gentle arch, a detail that only works when the outline is even, and the bottom line stays flat so the block does not drift. Spacing is tight and the letters are wide, which fills the plate without needing a frame. The ground is flat navy, and the only other element is a small tracked caption beneath, so the specimen shows two colourways of the same plate rather than two faces.

A layered college slab is what a school jersey actually carries, and the even outline means the design can be cut in twill and stitched without redrawing each letter.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cut a 300 mm chest patch: the team name at 60 mm cap height, the number at 45 mm, and a 3 mm outline. Keep the thinnest serif at 3 mm for the twill and leave the arch to the top line only so the patch sits flat.
Pre-production check
Check the twill cut at 300 mm, where a 3 mm outline frays; widen it to 4 mm. Confirm the patch stitches without puckering and that the number stays legible from ten metres.
A layered slab reads as a club badge rather than a company logo, and the outlined build gives the mark a finished edge on a flag, a sticker or a shirt.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 50 mm on a pennant, 30 mm on a sticker and 150 mm on a banner. Keep the outline proportional at each size and build a single-colour version for embroidery, where the gold and orange collapse into one thread.
Pre-production check
Check the 30 mm sticker, where the outline can close the counters; keep the outline at 1.5 mm. Confirm the pennant mark reads from the touchline and that the embroidery version survives the digitising step.
A college slab puts a sports theme on a card without an illustration, and the two colourways let one design carry a headline and a detail line that still look related.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A6 card: the headline at 30 pt in the orange cut, the details in a 9 pt sans, and a 3 mm border. Keep 12 mm margins and print two inks on a white card so the outlines stay open at card size.
Pre-production check
Check the 30 pt headline, where the outline can fill the counters; keep the outline at or below 1.2 mm at that size. Confirm the 9 pt details keep a 4.5:1 contrast and that the arch does not push the headline into the trim.
