Varsity slab with double outline and wear
Varsity Distressed is a varsity slab in black on white: heavy capitals with flat serifs, a double outline that follows the silhouette, and a worn texture across the fill, shown with a full alphabet and a digit set.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The sheet is a working specimen: two headline words at the top, a large single letter beside a complete alphabet and a digit row, all in one face. The letterforms are varsity slabs, with heavy stems, flat thick serifs, flat apexes and squared shoulders, and each letter is built in two parts, a solid fill inside a heavy outline, with the fill broken by a fine speckle of missing ink. Because the outline is separate from the fill, the face can be printed in one colour and still read as a two-colour patch, which is what makes it useful for team wear and cheap merchandise. The alphabet and digits are shown at a smaller size, which is the honest part: a buyer can see that the face holds up below headline size as well as above it. The ground is a plain white. Varsity Distressed is a display face for team apparel, school signage, sports posters and merchandise, and it needs capitals at a large size and a light ground for the speckle to show.

A varsity slab with a built-in outline prints as a two-colour number in one pass, and the heavy figures read from the far side of a rink.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 250 mm jersey back: set each digit at 180 mm cap height, keep 35 mm between the digits, and hold 55 mm clear of the shoulders and 40 mm clear of the hem.
Pre-production check
A separate outline shifts on stretch fabric; print one garment and check the register of the outline before the squad order.
A varsity block reads at speed from the street, and the outline gives the sign a printed depth without a second colour plate.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 1000 by 350 mm panel: set the name at 170 pt on one line, keep 45 mm of clear ground beneath before the hours at 30 pt, and hold 34 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
Fine speckle on a large panel can look like dirt; view one printed panel from the far pavement before the run.
A varsity block marks a section without a photograph, and the alphabet shown at small size proves the face works below headline scale.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 230 by 300 mm divider: set the section title at 80 pt on one line, keep 26 mm of clear ground beneath before the summary at 11 pt, and hold 20 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
An outline at eighty points is heavy; proof one divider and check that the outline does not overpower the fill.
