Squared narrow blackletter
Shadow Rune is a squared narrow blackletter in bone on a dark stone ground: capitals with diagonal shoulders, a clipped S, blunt stems and a small scale texture, set as two words across a shield device with a small tracked line above and a plain line beneath.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The plate is a heraldic composition: a crowned shield with a sword sits behind the two words, and the type is squared enough to read as carved wood rather than as writing, which keeps it legible over the device. That construction sets a moderate size floor, because the clipped corners and the diagonal shoulders close first. The tracked line above and the plain line beneath are product copy that name the register, and the shield is a supplied ornament. Because the letters are squared and heavy, the face suits a poster, a cover and a sign for a historical or fantasy subject, and it holds a short word across a wide format better than a long line.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Shadow Rune’s stroke geometry.
A squared blackletter reads as carved rather than written, and the heavy stems hold over a shield device at poster size.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A2 poster: the event at 100 mm cap height, the details in a 14 mm serif, and the venue at 11 mm. Keep 32 mm margins and print two colours on a dark stock.
Pre-production check
Check the A2 at five metres, where a clipped S can read as a slug; keep the contrast inside the letter. Confirm the 11 mm venue reads at two metres and that the shield clears the title.
A squared blackletter frames a fantasy cover, and the even weight holds over an illustrated device at thumbnail size. The weight holds at cover size.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 85 mm cap height across 180 mm, the author in a 12 pt serif, and the imprint at 8 pt. Print two colours on a textured stock and keep 22 mm margins at the head.
Pre-production check
Check the title at 85 mm, where a shoulder can clot; keep the counters open. Confirm the 8 pt imprint survives lamination and that the title clears the trim.
A squared gothic gives a tavern a sign with weight, and the blunt stems hold on a dark window in vinyl. It reads as a carved sign.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cut 900 by 320 mm vinyl: the tavern at 110 mm cap height, the line in a 20 mm serif, and a 4 mm contour. Keep 25 mm margins and apply to a clean pane at dusk.
Pre-production check
Check the cut at 110 mm, where a 4 mm shoulder can tear on weeding; widen it to 6 mm. Confirm the 20 mm line reads at two metres and that the scale texture survives.
