Visual anatomy & craft review
Sergia is a fast ballpoint signature cursive with a steep slant, a light even line and joins that lift off the baseline so the word skims rather than sits. The speed shows in the abbreviated loops and the way the last letter trails into a quick tail, and the thin line needs white space to stay legible. It needs roughly 24 mm for the abbreviated loop and the tail to read, and it is best in one ballpoint blue or black on white, or a single dark ink on a smooth cream stock where the thin line does not bleed.

A fast signature reads as a working illustrator's own signature rather than a designed logo, which is what a portfolio cover wants. The trailing tail gives the mark movement at 26 mm, and one dark ink on smooth stock keeps the thin join alive where a textured sheet would break it.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Book plate 90 x 60 mm, word 26 mm with 8 mm tail clearance, 6 mm margins. Sticker 60 mm round, word 14 mm, 4 mm die margin. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 60 mm round sticker at 14 mm closes the abbreviated loop and the name reads as a blue smear. Raise the sticker word to 18 mm or print an initial only, and check one sheet before the batch.
A quick ballpoint signature reads as a columnist signing off rather than a typeset byline, which is what a regular column wants at the foot. The lifted joins keep the signature light beside a serif body at 24 pt, and one ink prints it without a second plate on the page.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Column foot 30 x 15 mm signature, 9 pt caption underneath. Interview byline 24 pt with 8 mm tail clearance, standfirst 11/15 pt, 18 mm margins. Page 210 x 297 mm, body 9/13 pt.
Pre-production check
At 9 pt the byline's lifted joins break into disconnected marks and the signature reads as a stray rule. Keep signatures at 18 pt and above, and proof one page at 1:1 before the run.
A ballpoint signature reads as a name actually signed rather than engraved, which is what a modern couple wants under an invitation. The steep slant gives the names momentum at 28 pt, and the same line prints on the guest-book page and the place card without redrawing.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 28 pt with 10 mm tail clearance, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Guest book 210 x 148 mm, header 30 pt. Place card 90 x 50 mm, name 11 pt, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
An 11 pt place card thins the ballpoint line under what a laser printer holds and the name prints as a dotted trail. Set place cards at 14 pt, and proof one card before the suite.
