Outline handwritten sans
Montserrat is an outline handwritten sans in white on a dark gradient: unfilled letters drawn with a single rounded line, a small x-height and wide open counters that let the background read through the word.

Fine grain and micro-texture excel in 300 DPI print, sublimation, and screen print rather than small vinyl weeding.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The word sits alone on a blurred gradient, and the face is a handwritten sans drawn as an outline: every stem is a thin white line with rounded corners, the M has two open peaks, the o and the e are circles drawn in a single stroke and the t is a plain cross, so the letters are legible because of their shapes rather than their weight. Because nothing is filled, the ground shows through the word, which is what makes an outline face useful over photographs and gradients where a solid face would block the image. A small line in a solid handwritten face beneath names the studio, and the composition keeps a lot of empty space around the word. Montserrat is a display outline face for covers, posters and graphics over imagery, and it needs a large size and a dark or busy ground to be worth using.

An outline face lets the venue and the decoration show through the lettering, which suits a table set in a garden rather than a plain wall.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 400 by 250 mm acetate sign: set the greeting at 76 pt on one line, keep 20 mm of clear ground beneath before the note at 18 pt, and hold 18 mm of border on all four sides.
Pre-production check
An outline stroke on a pale background disappears; print one sign at the final size and check the contrast from a few metres before the set.
An outline face is the rare cover type that does not compete with a photograph, and the open counters keep the word readable at a glance.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 230 by 300 mm cover: set the cover word at 92 pt on one line, keep 24 mm of clear ground beneath before the cover lines at 11 pt, and hold 22 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
A thin outline can vanish over a light part of the image; print one cover and check every stroke before the run.
An outline title gives an opener a light, contemporary look, and the small x-height keeps a long word inside the measure.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 230 by 300 mm opener: set the title at 80 pt on one line, keep 26 mm of clear ground beneath before the standfirst at 11 pt, and hold 22 mm of margin on both sides.
Pre-production check
Outline strokes print unevenly on uncoated stock; print one opener on the real paper and check the line weight before the issue.
