Condensed tapered serif display with wide letterspaced caps
Ironvale is a condensed display serif in which the stems taper toward the middle, the serifs flare and the caps sit wide apart, so a title reads as a printed heritage poster from the plains rather than as a modern serif.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The I tapers between two flared serifs, the R turns a curled leg, the O holds a tall oval, the N keeps two tapered stems and the V narrows to a fine point, all at a moderate contrast with flared serifs and a narrow proportion. The taper is the character: the stems thin in the middle and thicken at the ends, which gives the letterspaced line its engraved look. Because the strokes are moderate and the spacing wide, the face needs 30 pt before the taper reads, and it prints cleanly in one dark ink on a warm ground. The painted prairie sky, the clouds, the small details either side and the caption below are presentation; the olive display title is the face.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Ironvale’s stroke geometry.
The heritage serif suits an orchard product, and the tapered stems print cleanly at 20 pt on a kraft bottle label in one ink.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 70 by 50 mm label: set the orchard name at 20 pt with 3 percent tracking, set the variety in a 7 pt caps beneath, and keep 5 mm of border so the flared serifs are not clipped.
Pre-production check
Flared serifs cut by a die lose their shape; check the imposed label and keep 4 mm of clear ground around the word.
The vintage register suits rural documentary work, and the tapered caps read across a book cover at 90 pt over a landscape.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 210 by 260 mm cover: set the title at 90 pt across the upper third over the sky, set the subtitle in a 10 pt caps 22 mm beneath, and keep 25 mm of margin so the tapered stems stay clear of the trim.
Pre-production check
A tapered stem over a bright sky loses its thin middle; check the printed cover and place the title over the darker band of the image.
The vintage caps give a seed merchant authority, and the letterspaced line reads from a painted shopfront fascia at 60 mm.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Paint a 800 by 250 mm sign: set the company name at 60 mm with 4 percent tracking, keep 30 mm of border, and paint in one dark colour on a light board so the flared serifs stay open.
Pre-production check
Wide-tracked caps painted on a rough board close their serifs; check the board and keep the tracking rather than thickening the letters.
