Letterform structure
of Halloween Parade.
HALLOWEEN over PARADE fills the card, each letter a different colourway with a heavy dark outline and a lighter inner edge, and inside the shapes a crowd of small drawn pieces sits: a pumpkin with a carved grin, a ghost with a surprised mouth, a skull, a bat on a web, a sprig of berries. The letters are wide and rounded with generous counters, so the drawings have room, and the palette runs violet, orange, lime, grey and cream. Behind the words a dusk sky with bare trees, hanging lamps and a spiral spider web sets the scene, and at the foot a caption names the set and a credit line names the studio. The faces and characters are arranged differently in every letter, which means a repeat of the same letter in one word will not look identical. It is a party face, made for invitations, banners and printable decorations rather than for anything that has to be read at small size.
