Visual anatomy & craft review
Croc is a prehistoric block font surfaced with cracked crocodile scales: heavy square letters whose faces are tiled with irregular scale plates, a raised edge along the stems and a small claw notch in some counters. The scale plates are the design and they fill into a texture when the face is reversed or set small. It needs roughly 34 mm for the scale and the claw notch to read, and it is best as a flat two-colour print on coated stock, or one dense ink on kraft where the scales print as a raised ridge.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Croc’s stroke geometry.
A scaled block alphabet announces a dinosaur party inside the lettering, so no licensed character is needed. The scales hold at 44 mm on a topper, and two flat inks print the invite and the wraps as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 44 mm with 10 mm scale clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 48 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Cup wrap 200 x 90 mm, word 20 mm, 12 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
A 130 mm topper cut across a scale plate leaves a 1 mm island that falls out in the laser. Cut toppers to the outer silhouette, and test one before the party.
A scaled block face gives a natural-history feature the look of a field-guide plate. The scales hold at 60 pt on a coated page, and two flat inks keep the plates separated against a tinted panel.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Header 60 pt with 10 mm scale clearance, body 9/13 pt over two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins and a 12 mm head. Opener 48 pt with 10 mm of clear ground. Section head 26 pt with 8 mm above and 6 mm below.
Pre-production check
At 26 pt on the section head the scales fill into a solid texture and the head reads as a bar of hide. Keep the face at 40 pt and above, and proof one spread at 1:1.
A scaled block face reads as a stamped expedition crate rather than a modern logo. The plates hold at 28 mm on a card, and one dense ink prints the card and the crate in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 85 x 55 mm, word 28 mm with 8 mm scale clearance, details 7/9 pt, 5 mm margins. Crate print 300 x 200 mm, word 60 mm, 20 mm margins. Bag print 200 x 250 mm, word 50 mm, 15 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the plates merge and the name reads as a reptilian bar. Raise the card word to 34 mm, and check one card before the run.
