Visual anatomy & craft review
Chalkboard by andikastudio is a wide comic-block display whose heavy slab silhouettes are densely hatched with diagonal white chalk strokes, so a word reads as a board drawn with a ruler rather than a printed poster. The hatch is tight and the letters are wide, which means the face needs size for the strokes to read as chalk, and it fills a horizontal panel with a single short word. It needs roughly 28 mm for the hatch to hold, and it is best in white on a dark green or slate ground.

Hatched comic blocks read as a board drawn for the term, which is what a classroom wall is. The wide forms fill a noticeboard at 120 mm in one colour, and the hatch gives the word texture that survives a school copier.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Display 1200 x 300 mm, letters 200 mm cut from card with 12 mm bridges. Board 900 x 600 mm, header 80 mm, rows 24 mm on a 34 mm pitch. Sign 600 x 400 mm, word 120 mm, 40 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A display letter cut from card drops the 1 mm chalk strokes inside the counter and the letter arrives as a plain block. Cut the silhouette and print the hatch, or bridge at 1.5 mm, and check one finished letter before the set.
Chalk-hatched blocks read as a menu written on the wall behind the counter, which is what a café is. The wide forms hold at 90 mm on a board in one colour, and the hatch lets a printed board look hand-drawn without a real chalkboard.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Board 1200 x 800 mm, header 130 mm, items 26 mm on a 38 mm pitch, 80 mm margins. Menu header 210 x 60 mm, word 30 mm, 15 mm margins. Cup print 200 x 90 mm, word 22 mm, 12 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
A printed board behind glass reflects the room and 26 mm item text at an angle reads as a grey ladder. Use a matte laminate and set items at 30 mm, and check one board in the shop light before the run.
Wide chalk blocks read as a market price board, which is what an autumn stand writes every morning. The hatch gives the sign a printed-board look in one ink, and the wide forms stay readable from a car window at 160 mm.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 900 x 600 mm, word 160 mm, 60 mm margins and 25 mm frame clearance. Board 600 x 400 mm, header 60 mm, prices 24 mm on a 34 mm pitch. Label 70 x 95 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm top arc.
Pre-production check
The board is updated in chalk over the printed hatch and the two textures fight at 60 mm. Leave 40 mm of blank board under the printed header for daily prices, and check one board after a wet market day.
