Heavy retro serif
Rytnak is a heavy retro serif in white over a photograph of a figure against a blue sea: fat stems, a hooked R, a pointed y tail and wide bowls, set as one word with a tracked line above in an oval rule and two small notes at the sides.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The word spans the width and the drawing is a heavy serif with period detail: the R hooks at the leg, the y descends to a point, and the bowls are wide, which gives the face the weight of a sixties label. The white over a photographic ground is a contrast test, and the face passes because the stems are thick and the type sits across the quieter part of the image. The oval rule above the word carries a tracked line, and the two notes at the sides name the pairing and the language support, which is the practical information a buyer checks. Because the strokes are heavy, the face works at display sizes and on packaging, and the plate keeps one word so each terminal is visible.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Rytnak’s stroke geometry.
A heavy retro serif reads as a period bottle label, and the thick stems hold on a curved pack where a hairline face would distort.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 70 by 90 mm label: the brand at 18 pt, the flavour at 8 pt, and the volume at 6 pt. Keep 5 mm inside the die and print two colours on a white stock with a gloss finish.
Pre-production check
Check the 18 pt brand on a curved bottle, where the outer letters compress; reduce the width. Confirm the 6 pt volume reads on the shelf and that the label holds in a chilled cabinet.
A heavy retro serif gives a period subject its own voice, and the thick strokes hold at thumbnail size where a fine serif would vanish.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 85 mm cap height across 200 mm, the subtitle in a 12 pt serif, and the author at 9 pt. Print two colours on a cream stock and keep the title in the upper half.
Pre-production check
Check the title at thumbnail size, where the hooked R can merge with the next letter; open the spacing. Confirm the 9 pt author survives lamination and that the title clears the trim.
A retro serif suits a summer poster, and the white on a photographic ground reads at a distance because the stems are thick enough.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A2 poster: the event at 90 mm cap height, the dates in a 22 mm serif, and the venue at 10 mm. Keep 28 mm margins and print two colours over a photograph.
Pre-production check
Check the poster at five metres, where the white can disappear against a bright sky; add a subtle shadow. Confirm the 10 mm venue reads at three metres and that the title fits.
