Very thin didone with ornament
Orlevin is a very thin modern serif in warm dark grey on a textured plaster wall: hairline stems, sharp flat serifs and a broad O that carries a crossing ornament in place of a counter, with a tracked line at the head and two lines of description beneath.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The word spans the plate and the drawing is a didone at the thinnest end: the stems are hairlines, the serifs are flat and thin, and the letters are widely spaced, so the word reads as engraved rather than printed. The O is the detail that carries the style, with a slender star or cross set inside the bowl in place of a plain counter, and the specimen sets it large enough that the ornament is visible. The two lines beneath are set in a small serif and they name the alternates, the ligatures and the language support, which is the practical information a buyer needs. Because the strokes are so fine, the face is a display cut for smooth stock or screen, and the textured wall behind it is a deliberate contrast that shows where it should not be used.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Orlevin’s stroke geometry.
A thin didone reads as precision, and the wide spacing gives a short name the calm of a technical drawing rather than the warmth of a retail mark.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 18 pt on a card, 90 mm on a hoarding and 12 pt in a footer, keeping the ornament only above 24 pt. Keep one colour and hold clear space equal to the cap height.
Pre-production check
Check the 12 pt footer on uncoated paper, where a hairline can fill; use a heavier cut at that size. Confirm the hoarding reads at ten metres and that the ornament survives vinyl cutting.
A thin didone gives an art catalogue restraint, and the wide letterspacing lets a long exhibition title breathe across a cover.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 85 mm cap height across 200 mm, the subtitle in an 11 pt serif, and the date at 8 pt. Print one ink on a matte stock and keep the title in the upper two thirds.
Pre-production check
Check the title at 85 mm on matte stock, where hairlines can break; keep them above 0.25 mm. Confirm the 8 pt date survives lamination and that the title clears the trim by 12 mm.
A thin serif suits a contemporary invitation, and the drawn ornament in the O gives a single decorative note without a second element.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A5 invitation: the names at 25 pt, the request in a 9.5 pt serif, and the date at 8.5 pt caps. Keep 26 mm margins and foil one colour on a heavy card so the hairlines read.
Pre-production check
Check the 25 pt names in foil, where a hairline can break the edge; keep it above 0.3 mm. Confirm the 9.5 pt request reads at arm's length and that the ornament stays whole.
