Ornamented cantina display

Mexico Culture

Mexico Culture is an ornamented display in yellow and orange on purple: bold caps with hand-drawn patterns cut inside each stroke, sun and flower motifs in the bowls, dot and dash ornaments around the letters, with paper bunting above and layered flowers below.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Mexico Culture.

The two words are stacked and each letter carries its own pattern: dashes, stitches, dots and small suns are cut inside the strokes, which turns the words into a decorated object rather than a text line. The patterns sit inside the letters rather than around them, so the silhouette stays simple and the word remains legible at a distance, and the ornaments between letters keep the spacing even. Because the detail is fine, the face needs a large size, and the specimen sets it big on a flat purple ground with bunting and flowers that belong to the seasonal setting. The palette is three colours, and the small tracked label above and the ruled caption below are the only neutral elements, which keeps the plate in one voice.

Practical applications

Project & layout

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Mexico Culture’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Packaging for a food brand

An ornamented display gives a food brand a festive identity, and the patterned letters read on a box where a flat display would look generic in a crowded aisle.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 150 by 220 mm box face: the product at 40 mm cap height, the flavour in a 9 pt sans, and the weight at 7 pt. Keep 12 mm margins and print three flat colours so the internal patterns stay open.

Pre-production check

Check the 40 mm product on a laminated box, where the fine patterns can fill; simplify them below 50 mm. Confirm the 7 pt weight reads on the shelf and that the patterns stay registered across colours.

Summer

Poster for a street festival

A decorated display reads as a festival poster, and the internal patterns give the title texture without a photograph of the event.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A2 portrait: the festival at 120 mm cap height, the programme in a 16 mm sans, and the dates at 22 mm. Keep 30 mm margins and print three flat colours on a mid-tone ground.

Pre-production check

Check the poster at five metres, where the patterns can read as noise; keep them coarse. Confirm the 16 mm programme reads at two metres and that the bunting stays above the title.

Birthday

Card for a themed party

A festive display sets a party theme with one element, and the ornaments inside the letters photograph well on a small card.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 card: the greeting at 28 pt, the details in a 9 pt sans, and a flower motif. Keep 12 mm margins and print three colours on a white card so the patterns remain distinct at home-print resolution.

Pre-production check

Check the 28 pt greeting, where the fine dashes can break up; simplify the pattern at that size. Confirm the 9 pt details keep a 4.5:1 contrast and that the motif clears the trim.
