Scale-filled slab display
Mermaid is a slab display filled with overlapping pastel scales: heavy letters with a fine dark contour and a dotted inner edge, set with a script word above and a tracked line beneath, all on a pale iridescent ground with ghosted lettering behind.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The plate stacks three voices and the face itself is a scale-filled slab: the contour carries the shape, the scales fill the interior, and a dotted line runs inside the edge, so a letter reads as a fish tail at a glance. That construction sets a size floor, because the scales close when the letters shrink, and the plate sets the word large enough that each scale is separate. The script above and the tracked line beneath are companion styles rather than part of the same family, and the pale ground with ghosted lettering behind is staging. Because the fill is busy, the face works at display sizes and on a cut garment, and the pastel palette keeps the pattern readable against a light ground.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Mermaid’s stroke geometry.
A scale-filled display sets a pool theme in the lettering itself, and the contour keeps the shapes separate at 55 mm where a soft fill would blur.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 240 mm chest graphic: the greeting at 55 mm cap height, the year at 28 mm, and two inks on a light shirt. Keep the smallest scale at 4 mm and place the graphic 80 mm below the collar.
Pre-production check
Check the screen at actual mesh, where a 4 mm scale can fill; simplify the fill. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the contour stays closed after five cycles.
A pastel scale pattern reads at a distance as shimmer, which suits a summer event where a flat single-colour face would look plain.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A2 print: the greeting at 90 mm cap height, the details in a 20 mm sans, and the address at 10 mm. Keep 28 mm margins and print three colours on a light stock.
Pre-production check
Check the A2 at four metres, where the scales can merge; keep the contour above 2 mm. Confirm the 10 mm address reads at arm's length and that the title clears the trim.
A patterned display reads as a themed product, and the contour keeps a small label legible where a photographic fill would clot.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 60 by 60 mm label: the brand at 13 pt, the product at 8 pt, and the size at 6 pt. Keep 4 mm inside the die and print three colours on a white stock.
Pre-production check
Check the 13 pt brand on a small label, where the scales can close; use a plain fill at that size. Confirm the 6 pt size reads at arm's length and that the label peels cleanly.
