Heart monogram with botanical ornament

Lovely Valentine

Lovely Valentine is a decorative valentine design built around a large heart: a single initial stands inside the heart on a stem of leaves, a rose grows up the stem, a butterfly and a scatter of four-point stars fill the field, and a connected script names the face beneath.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Lovely Valentine.

The heart is drawn as a thin even outline rather than a filled shape, which leaves the interior open for the monogram, the rose and the leaves, and the letter sits on a short stalk that reads as part of the illustration rather than as type placed on top. The initial itself is a soft serif with a small foot serif and a ball terminal, drawn at a size where the counters stay open, and the florals are built from the same line weight as the heart so the whole lockup reads as one drawing. The script beneath is a connected brush script, and the pair shows the intended system: the ornament carries the design and the script names the occasion. The ground is a soft pink gradient with a shadow under the heart, and everything is one colour, which is what a paper cutting or a foil stamp needs.

Practical applications

Project & layout

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Lovely Valentine’s stroke geometry.

Valentine

Card front for a February campaign

A heart-and-botanical monogram gives a valentine card a finished, personal design, and the single-colour drawing works as a foil stamp or a cut file.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 card: the heart at 55 mm tall with the initial at 20 pt, the campaign line in the script at 10 pt beneath, and a 8 mm margin to the trim. Keep the whole card to one ink on a pale ground so the thin ornament stays visible.

Pre-production check

Check the thin heart outline at 55 mm, where a 0.2 pt line will break on uncoated stock; thicken it slightly for print. Confirm the initial reads inside the heart and that the script line clears the heart's lower point by 5 mm.

Wedding

Seating card ornament

A heart monogram can carry a guest's initial on a seating card, which turns a standard piece of stationery into part of the decoration, and the single line weight keeps it cheap to print.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 90 by 50 mm tent card: the heart at 30 mm with the guest's initial at 14 pt, the table number in a 9 pt serif at the right, and the names in 7 pt caps at the foot. Keep 6 mm margins so the ornament is never clipped by the fold.

Pre-production check

Check the initial at 14 pt inside a 30 mm heart, where the letter can look loose or crowded depending on the glyph; test the widest letters of the alphabet. Confirm the 7 pt names read at arm's length and that the fold does not cross the heart.

Thank you

Gift tag for a small order

A heart-and-rose monogram makes a gift tag feel considered, and one colour on a small tag keeps the print cost negligible for a small business.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 50 by 90 mm tag: the heart at 22 mm with a single initial at 10 pt, the shop name in the script at 8 pt, and a 3 mm hole reinforcement at the top. Keep 4 mm clear around the ornament so the die does not cross the leaves.

Pre-production check

Check the 22 mm heart on the tag, where the butterfly and the smallest stars can fill in below 0.5 mm; remove the tiniest ornaments for the tag version. Confirm the 3 mm hole clears the design and that the script reads at arm's length.
