Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Kunai is a blade-notched tactical sans: squared stems, a heavy even weight, and sharp triangular notches cut into the shoulders and terminals so each letter reads as a machined edge. The notches break the silhouette and close first at small sizes, and the squared skeleton keeps a word level. It needs roughly 30 mm for the notch and the shoulder to read, and it is best in one cool grey or acid ink on black, or black on a pale technical sheet where the notches stay crisp.

A blade-notched sans is the lettering a gear brand already uses, so an identity in it reads as the product rather than a costume. The notches hold at 30 mm on a patch, and one ink prints the sleeve and the card from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Patch 90 x 60 mm, word 20 mm with 5 mm notch clearance, 5 mm edge margin. Sleeve print 120 x 300 mm, word 60 mm, 15 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 20 mm on an embroidered patch the notch stitches shut and the letter reads as a burr. Keep patch lettering at 28 mm or use a printed patch, and approve one sample before the order.
A notched tactical sans reads as a specification plate rather than a headline, which is what a gear or security feature wants. The notches give the title edge at 64 pt, and the square corners align to a strict grid without correction.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Opener 210 x 297 mm, title 64 pt with 6 mm notch clearance, standfirst 11/15 pt, body 9/13 pt in three columns, 18 mm margins. Spec plate 120 x 60 mm, label 8 mm, value 10 mm. Tab 40 x 120 mm, word 9 mm, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 9 mm section tab closes the notch and the tab reads as a black box. Keep tabs at 14 mm or print them as icons, and check one tab sheet at 1:1.
A notched tactical display reads as a warning placard rather than a pumpkin, which is the register for a science-fiction fright night. The notches hold at 130 mm on a poster, and one acid ink on black prints the poster, the ticket and the hanger in a single pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 130 mm with 12 mm notch clearance, times 36 mm, 20 mm margins. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 14 mm, 4 mm perforation. Door hanger 100 x 200 mm, word 20 mm with a 30 mm hanger cut.
Pre-production check
A 100 x 50 mm ticket at 14 mm fills the notch and the word reads as a solid shard. Raise the ticket to 18 mm, and check one ticket before the batch.
