Visual anatomy & craft review
Chunky Angela is a comic-outlined retro uppercase display that sits between the nineties and the seventies: fat rounded letters with a thick black keyline, a white inner gap and a bold fill, plus a small counter squiggle that reads as a comic sound effect. The keyline is the design and it merges with the fill when the face is reduced. It needs roughly 32 mm for the keyline and the gap to read, and it is best in three flat inks on white, or two inks where the gap is the paper itself.

A comic-outlined display announces a loud birthday through the lettering alone. The keyline holds at 44 mm on a topper, and two flat inks with the paper gap print the invite and the wraps as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 44 mm with 10 mm keyline clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 48 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Cup wrap 200 x 90 mm, word 20 mm, 12 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
A cup wrap printed across the taper squeezes the keyline at the seam and the word reads as a doubled outline. Keep the word inside the flat 60 mm centre band, and wrap one cup before the party.
A comic outline display turns a comics page into its own cover title. The keyline holds at 60 pt on a coated page, and three flat inks keep the gap open against a halftone panel.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Header 60 pt with 8 mm keyline clearance, body 10/14 pt in two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins. Cover flash 90 x 60 mm, word 32 pt, 6 mm margins. Section head 30 pt.
Pre-production check
At 30 pt on the section head the gap closes and the head reads as a solid bar. Keep the face at 46 pt and above, and proof one spread at 1:1.
A loud comic outline reads across a field where a thin face would vanish. The keyline holds at 150 mm on a poster, and three flat inks print the poster and the tote from one separation.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 150 mm with 15 mm keyline clearance, details 44 mm, 20 mm margins. Stage banner 3000 x 800 mm, word 260 mm, 60 mm safe edge. Tote print 300 x 300 mm, word 70 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Screen printed on a tote at 70 mm the keyline bridges into the fill after a wash and the outline disappears. Use a 2 mm stencil bridge, and wash one sample before the order.
