Heavy condensed display sans
Thickbar is a heavy condensed sans in white on black with paper shapes at the edges: capitals with tapered diagonals, pinched curved counters and flat terminals, set as one large word between four coloured labels and four plain credits, with a ghosted repeat of the word in the ground.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The plate uses a ghosted repeat of the word behind the main line, which is a deliberate layering trick and a useful one, because it shows the face at two sizes at once. The drawing is a heavy condensed sans with tapered diagonals and pinched counters, so the letters stay distinct even where the strokes are thickest, and the flat terminals keep the block from looking rounded. That construction sets a moderate size floor, since the pinched counters close first. The four coloured labels are product copy naming the styles and the support, and the four credits carry the studio and the year. Because the letters are heavy and narrow, the face suits a poster, a sleeve and a signage application, and the plate sets it large enough to judge the taper honestly.

A heavy condensed sans carries across a dark room, and the tapered diagonals keep the letters distinct at distance. A dark room kills fine type, not heavy type.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A1 poster: the night at 250 mm cap height, the date in a 24 mm sans, and the venue at 12 mm. Keep 30 mm margins and print two colours on a dark stock.
Pre-production check
Check the A1 at five metres, where a pinched counter can close; keep it above 4 mm. Confirm the 12 mm venue reads at two metres and that the date clears the block.
A heavy condensed masthead fills a narrow cover and reads at newsstand distance, which is the point of the format. Newsstand distance is the whole test.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the masthead at 140 mm cap height across 150 mm, the cover lines in an 8.5 pt sans, and the issue at 7 pt. Print two colours on a coated stock. Keep 20 mm clear at the foot for the barcode.
Pre-production check
Check the masthead at 140 mm, where a tapered diagonal can clot; proof it. Confirm the 7 pt issue survives lamination and that the masthead clears both margins.
A heavy condensed sans fits a long name on a narrow fascia, and the flat terminals read under a light box at night. A light box needs thick joins.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Fabricate a 1,000 by 320 mm sign: the bar at 120 mm cap height, the menu in a 22 mm sans, and a 4 mm rule. Keep 22 mm margins and specify an even backlight.
Pre-production check
Check the sign at 120 mm, where a pinched counter can fill with light; keep it above 6 mm. Confirm the 22 mm menu reads at three metres and that the rule clears the fixings.
