Light modern serif
Rahena is a light modern serif in white over a warm photograph of a diffuser: broad mixed case with rounded hooked terminals, a fine even stroke and an open aperture, set as one word across the plate with a tracked line at the head and small corner notes.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The word spans the width and the drawing is a light serif: the stroke is even, the terminals end in a rounded hook, and the aperture is open, which keeps a soft word looking modern rather than antique. The lightness is the product here, and the plate sets it over a photograph so the buyer can see how little weight it needs to hold — it works because the background is quiet where the letters fall and because the letters are large. The tracked line at the head names the studio and the corner notes carry the year and the maker. Because the stroke is light, the face belongs at display sizes on smooth stock, and the plate is a fair test of that with a warm, low-contrast image behind it.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Rahena’s stroke geometry.
A light serif reads as skincare rather than as pharmaceuticals, and the hooked terminals give a short name a softness that a grotesque cannot.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 17 pt on a carton, 85 mm on a shelf panel and 12 pt on a card, keeping the light cut only above 15 pt. Keep one colour and clear space equal to the x-height.
Pre-production check
Check the 12 pt card mark, where a light stroke can fade; use a medium cut at that size. Confirm the shelf panel reads at four metres and that the hooks stay open in foil.
A light serif makes a masthead with air, and the open aperture keeps the word readable at newsstand size without adding weight.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the masthead at 100 mm cap height across 200 mm, the cover lines in an 8 pt serif, and the issue at 7 pt. Print one ink on a coated stock and keep the masthead over a quiet area.
Pre-production check
Check the masthead at 100 mm on uncoated stock, where a light stroke can break; proof one sheet. Confirm the 7 pt issue survives lamination and that the masthead holds at thumbnail size.
A light serif gives a contemporary invitation restraint, and the open forms read as calm rather than as a decorative flourish.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A5 invitation: the names at 26 pt, the request in a 9.5 pt serif, and the date at 8.5 pt caps. Keep 24 mm margins and letterpress one ink on a heavy cotton card.
Pre-production check
Check the 26 pt names in letterpress, where a light stroke can sink; proof the plate first. Confirm the 9.5 pt request reads at arm's length and that the names clear the trim.
