Thick brush script with swash hearts

Mistle Kiss

Mistle Kiss is a thick brush script in black with a white halo on mint: rounded strokes with heavy joins, two oversized swashes that curl around the words, and small hearts worked into the connections, so the pair reads as a romantic sign-painting script.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Mistle Kiss.

The word is set once, large, and the drawing is a brush script at heavy weight: the stroke swells through every bowl, the joins stay thick, and the terminals end in blunt flares rather than hairline points. The two swashes are the dramatic element: one lifts off the first capital and curls over the top of the word, the other drops from the final letter and sweeps under it, so the lockup forms a rough frame. Hearts are nested into two of the connections, small enough to read as jewellery rather than as icons, and the white halo separates the black script from the mint ground at close range. The specimen adds a mistletoe illustration in the corner and a line of small tracked caps beneath, so the page reads as a romantic card rather than a type sample.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Mistle Kiss’s stroke geometry.

Valentine

Card for a Valentine gift set

A thick brush script with hearts signals a romantic occasion in one word, and the heavy stroke holds on a small tag where a fine script would disappear.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 card: the phrase at 36 pt with a 1 mm halo, the product line in a 9 pt serif, and a small mistletoe mark. Keep 12 mm margins, print one ink on a pale stock, and leave the swashes unclipped so the lockup reads as drawn.

Pre-production check

Check the 36 pt swashes, where the upper curl can run into the trim; pull the phrase down 4 mm. Confirm the 9 pt product line keeps a 4.5:1 contrast and that the hearts survive at 25 percent scale in a listing image.

Wedding

Sign for a winter reception

A swashed brush script reads as a painted welcome sign, and the heavy weight stays legible at a distance across a room where a delicate script would not.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A1 board: the phrase at 120 mm cap height with a 4 mm halo, the couple's names in an 18 mm serif, and a 6 mm rule. Keep 40 mm margins so the swashes have room, and paint one colour on a mid-toned ground.

Pre-production check

Check the swashes at full size, where a brush flare can look like a blot on the board; smooth the thickest points. Confirm the 18 mm names read from four metres and that the halo holds against the ground in low light.

Brand & packaging

Label for a chocolate box

A romantic brush script makes a gift box feel personal, and the swash frame gives the label a built-in border without a drawn ornament.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 90 by 90 mm label: the name at 22 pt with a 0.8 mm halo, the weight in a 7 pt sans, and the contents in 6 pt. Keep 6 mm clear inside the die so the swashes are never cut, and print two inks on a dark stock.

Pre-production check

Check the 22 pt swashes against the die line at 6 mm; pull the lockup in if the curl narrows. Confirm the 6 pt contents read on the underside of the box and that the halo does not fill on uncoated stock.
