Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Children Writing.

Children Writing is a tidy upright print alphabet with rounded marker-bead terminals, even spacing and a deliberately simple skeleton, drawn to look like the best handwriting on a classroom wall rather than a teacher's script. Because each letter is a straightforward closed or open shape with generous counters, the face reads at 8 mm on a sight-word card and at 60 mm on a bulletin board without changing character, and it prints cleanly from a school copier. Lowercase and uppercase differ in proportion rather than ornament, so setting a proper name does not look like shouting.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Children Writing’s stroke geometry.

Classroom & school

Primary bulletin board, sight-word card and subject binder

Simple bead-tipped print is what emergent readers are taught to form, so a display board becomes a reference rather than decoration. Even counters keep a sight-word card legible in a child's hand at 8 mm.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Bulletin letters 80 mm tall on 160 gsm card, 5 mm hole at 12 mm from the top edge, 30 mm margins. Sight-word card 90 x 60 mm, word 14 mm, 6 mm border. Binder 240 x 320 mm, spine label 6 mm on a 30 mm panel.

Pre-production check

School copiers run at 300 dpi and pull card through a tight roller, and a bead terminal under 0.6 mm fills in. Print one sheet on the machine the school actually owns and check the dot of the i before running a class set.

Birthday

Back-to-school chalkboard sign, lunchbox note and name sticker

Upright print reads as a child's own writing, which makes a photo sign feel personal rather than bought. Bead terminals hold on a 30 mm sticker where a script would smear.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Sign 300 x 200 mm on chalkboard-paint board, line height 25 mm with 12 mm between lines, 25 mm margins. Note 90 x 60 mm, text 6/9 pt on 8 mm ruled pitch. Sticker 30 mm round, name 6 mm, 2 mm die margin.

Pre-production check

Stickers that go into a lunchbox meet condensation and a child's thumb, and a paper label lifts within a week. Use a waterproof vinyl label and round the corners, then test one on a chilled box for two days.

Thank you

Class thank-you card, volunteer badge and staffroom notice

Neat print keeps a group thank-you readable at a glance, and the plain skeleton leaves room for thirty children's signatures. The face holds a short message on a badge at 6 mm.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Card A5, greeting 14 mm, signature grid 30 blocks at 14 x 10 mm, 12 mm margins. Badge 80 x 110 mm with a 10 mm clip slot, name 9 mm. Notice A4, heading 16 mm, body 9/13 pt.

Pre-production check

Signature grids printed too close to the greeting leave no space for a child to write, and the card looks crowded. Print one copy, sign it yourself at the actual size, and adjust the grid before the run.
