Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Ahmedy | Rustic Brush Handwriting Script.

Ahmedy is a dry-brush rustic script with a tall tented A, a sweeping crossbar, connected brisk loops and visible bristle grain along the stroke edges, so a man's name reads as painted on a board rather than written with a pen. The dry edge is baked into the glyph, which means the face needs size for the grain to read, and the connected loops make it a decor rather than a text face. It needs roughly 26 mm for the bristle grain to hold, and it is best in chalk white on dark timber or in one dark ink on cream.

Practical applications

Project & layout

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Ahmedy | Rustic Brush Handwriting Script’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Rustic carton, tool-shed label and market sign

Dry-brush script reads as a brand painted by hand on a crate, which is what a small workshop prints on a box. The grain gives the label texture in one ink, and the connected loops hold a short name at 16 mm.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Carton 200 x 150 x 80 mm, word 44 mm on the lid, 25 mm margins and 6 mm clear of the fold. Label 70 x 45 mm, name 12 mm, 4 mm die margin. Sign 900 x 400 mm, word 160 mm, 60 mm margins and 25 mm frame clearance.

Pre-production check

A 12 mm label closes the bristle grain into a solid stroke and the name looks printed. Keep labels at 16 mm or above, and check one applied label under shop light.

Editorial & posters

Rustic-feature opener, label spread and recipe header

A dry-brush script reads as a hand-written heading over typeset body, which is what a craft or food feature wants. The grain gives the opener its texture without a photograph, and the tented A holds at 90 pt on coated stock.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Opener 420 x 297 mm, headline 110 mm, standfirst 12/16 pt, body 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Spread 420 x 297 mm, header 60 mm, columns 82 mm. Recipe header 210 x 60 mm, word 30 mm, 12 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A dry-brush script at 110 mm on uncoated stock shows the grain as blotches and the heading looks stained. Print coated or keep the script below 70 mm, and check one printed spread before the run.

Autumn

Harvest-market sign, cider label and produce card

Dry-brush lettering reads as a board painted for the season, which is what an autumn market posts at the gate. The grain survives a one-colour print, and the heavy strokes hold a short word at 170 mm.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Sign 900 x 600 mm, word 170 mm, 60 mm margins and 25 mm frame clearance. Label 70 x 95 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm top arc. Card 148 x 105 mm, item 18 mm, price 14 mm, 12 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A label printed on kraft lets the grain wick and the word loses its edge at 16 mm. Print on a coated label or raise the name to 20 mm, and check one applied label on a bottle.
