Letterform structure
of Skeleton Fairy.
The plate is a composed scene, and the figures are the frame: the two skeletons hold circled initials, so a pair of letters can sit on either side of a central word, and the moon behind gives the middle a ground without an illustration. The skeletons are drawn in fine line with polka-dot wings, which sets a moderate size floor because the ribs and wing dots close first. The heavy sans in the centre is deliberately plain so the figures stay the subject. The graveyard and the credit line are staging and product copy. It suits a card, a poster and a shirt for a gothic or a Halloween subject, and it is best used as a framed composition.
