Visual anatomy & craft review
Deudhora is a flourished Chicano and tattoo fine-line calligraphy script: a hairline stroke with almost no contrast, tall looped capitals that curl back over the word, long underline swashes that run beneath the phrase and small arrow or diamond accents at the swash ends. The hairline is the design and it breaks first on textured stock, and the underlines add a fixed width to any block of text. It needs roughly 30 mm for the hairline and the underline to read, and it is best in one fine ink on smooth card, or a single dark tone on coated stock.

A fine-line Chicano script gives a culture feature a hand-drawn header with an underline rather than a styled headline. The hairlines hold at 44 pt on coated stock, and the underline runs beneath the standfirst as a rule.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Opener 210 x 297 mm, title 44 pt with 12 mm swash clearance, standfirst 11/15 pt, body 9/13 pt over two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins. Pull quote 36 pt. Caption 8/11 pt.
Pre-production check
At 36 pt on the pull quote the hairlines silt on an uncoated sheet and the quote reads as pale marks. Keep the face on coated stock at 44 pt and above, and proof one spread at 1:1.
A fine-line script reads as a hand-drawn shop mark rather than a corporate logo, which is what a tattoo studio wants on its window. The hairlines hold at 30 mm on a card, and one fine ink prints the card and the decal in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 85 x 55 mm, word 30 mm with 10 mm swash clearance, details 7/9 pt, 8 mm margins. Window decal 400 x 200 mm, word 60 mm, 25 mm margins. Sign 600 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 400 x 200 mm window decal at 60 mm has 1.5 mm strokes that stretch during weeding. Keep vinyl strokes at 2.5 mm or above, and weed one decal before the run.
A fine-line tattoo script reads as a scratched bill rather than a cartoon monster. The hairlines hold at 120 mm on a poster, and one ink prints the poster and the tickets in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 120 mm with 14 mm swash clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 14 mm, 4 mm perforation. Door sign 250 x 350 mm, word 60 mm, 20 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 100 x 50 mm ticket at 14 mm drops the hairlines out and the word reads as a dotted rule. Raise the ticket to 20 mm, and print one ticket before the batch.
