Display serif with ligatures
The Paloma is a display serif in near-black on warm white: high contrast, fine hairline serifs, a wide bowl and a tall ascender, with one word in a light italic script beneath and a tracked line under that, both flanked by a thin vertical rule.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The plate pairs the roman with a script at a fraction of the size, which shows the combination the family is sold for rather than a single line of display type. The roman has narrow hairline serifs drawn almost flat, a large bowl and a closed aperture, which keeps a word like Paloma looking luxurious without ornament, and the specimen sets it wide enough that the hairlines are visible. The rule above and below the block is a single hairline, which turns the plate into a stationery layout, and the tracked line beneath names the product in small caps. Because the contrast is high, the face works at display sizes and on smooth stock, and the plate keeps the ground plain so the fine serifs are the only detail.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to The Paloma’s stroke geometry.
A display serif with a script companion gives a formal invitation two voices from one family, and the high contrast holds in foil on a heavy card.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A5 invitation: the names at 26 pt, the request at 10 pt in the same family, and the date at 9 pt caps, with the script only for the venue. Keep 22 mm margins and foil one colour.
Pre-production check
Check the 26 pt names in foil, where hairlines can break; keep them above 0.3 mm. Confirm the 10 pt request reads at arm's length and that the script venue stays open at 12 pt.
A display serif gives a small label a mark with presence, and pairing it with the script lets a shop sign a product without buying a second family.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 18 pt on a card, 80 mm on a shop panel, and 26 pt on a bag, using the script only above 14 pt. Keep one colour and clear space equal to the cap height.
Pre-production check
Check the 18 pt card mark, where a hairline serif can fade on uncoated stock; keep the size above 15 pt. Confirm the panel mark reads at five metres and that the script sits level.
A wide display serif makes a masthead with air, and the flat hairline serifs hold at thumbnail size where a busier face would clot.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the masthead at 100 mm cap height across 200 mm, the cover lines in an 8.5 pt serif, and the issue at 7 pt. Print one ink on a coated stock and keep the masthead over a quiet area.
Pre-production check
Check the masthead at 100 mm, where a flat serif can break on textured stock; proof one sheet. Confirm the 7 pt issue survives lamination and that the masthead holds at thumbnail size.
