Modern contrasted serif with alternates
Noare is a modern contrasted serif in cream on a mid-tone ground: fine hairlines, sharp serifs, a tall narrow waist, and a set of alternates that give several letters a curved, calligraphic terminal, shown in a title-case line with a small tracked caption beneath.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The line is set in title case and the drawing is a modern serif: the stems are heavy, the hairlines are fine, and the serifs are sharp, which gives the face its editorial tone. The alternates change the terminals of a few letters into curves, which is the detail a buyer is paying for, and the specimen shows them in place rather than describing them. Because the hairlines are fine, the face needs a large size and a smooth ground, and the specimen supplies both while keeping the type over the calmest area of the image behind. The tracked caption beneath is a light sans, which keeps the plate from becoming a one-family exercise, and the palette is a single cream against a warm ground.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Noare’s stroke geometry.
A contrasted serif reads as a literary title, and the calligraphic alternates give a short masthead a signature without a second face.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the masthead at 90 mm cap height across 200 mm, the issue lines in an 8 pt sans, and the price at 7 pt. Print cream on a mid-tone ground and keep the masthead in the upper third.
Pre-production check
Check the masthead at thumbnail size, where the hairlines can vanish; keep the contrast above 6:1. Confirm the 8 pt issue lines read at newsstand distance and that the price survives lamination.
A modern serif gives a formal invitation structure, and the alternates let the couple's names carry a single decorative gesture.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A5 invitation: the names at 26 pt with one alternate, the request in a 10 pt serif, and the date at 9 pt caps. Keep 22 mm margins and letterpress one ink on a heavy card.
Pre-production check
Check the 26 pt names on cotton, where fine serifs can sink; proof the plate. Confirm the 10 pt request reads at arm's length and that the alternate stays open on the press.
A contrasted serif gives a studio a mark that reads as editorial, and the alternates supply a detail that distinguishes it from a stock serif.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 20 pt on a card, 80 mm on a wall and 11 pt in a footer, using one alternate only. Keep one colour and hold clear space equal to the cap height.
Pre-production check
Check the 11 pt footer on uncoated paper, where hairlines can fill; keep the size at or above 9 pt. Confirm the wall mark reads at six metres and that the alternate does not close a counter.
