Visual anatomy & craft review
Modany is a slender upright fountain-pen cursive script: a fine even stroke on a nearly vertical axis, small loops, joined letters and a light ink swell where the pen pauses, with very little contrast between thin and thick. The monoline character makes it legible at small sizes, and the fine stroke is what fails first on textured stock. It needs roughly 24 mm for the pen swell and the join to read, and it is best in one dark ink on smooth card, or a single warm ink on cream where the swell prints as a soft edge.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Modany’s stroke geometry.
A fountain-pen cursive signs a wedding invitation in a hand rather than a plate, which suits a quiet celebration. The swell holds at 26 pt, and one dark ink on smooth card prints the suite in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 26 pt with 10 mm loop clearance, details 9/13 pt, 18 mm margins. Menu 120 x 210 mm, header 16 pt, courses 9/12 pt. Place card 90 x 50 mm, name 14 pt, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 14 pt on a place card the fine stroke lands near 0.25 mm and a laser printer breaks it into dots. Raise place cards to 18 pt, and proof one card before the suite.
A fountain-pen cursive reads as a hand-signed letterhead rather than a corporate logo. The stroke holds at 24 mm on a card, and one ink prints the card and the letterhead in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 85 x 55 mm, word 24 mm with 8 mm loop clearance, details 7/9 pt, 8 mm margins. Letterhead 210 x 297 mm, word 30 mm, 20 mm margins. Envelope 160 x 110 mm, word 16 mm, 12 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On a 160 x 110 mm envelope the fine stroke silts against the paper grain and the name reads as a faint line. Raise the envelope word to 22 mm, and check one printed envelope before the order.
A slender cursive reads as a written note rather than a printed acknowledgement. The stroke holds at 22 mm, and one ink prints the card, the tag and the label in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card A6, greeting 22 mm with 8 mm loop clearance, note 8/11 pt, 14 mm margins. Tag 50 x 90 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm hole with 8 mm clear. Jar label 70 x 45 mm, word 12 mm, 4 mm die margin.
Pre-production check
A 70 x 45 mm jar label at 12 mm drops the fine stroke under 0.2 mm on wet-strength paper. Raise the label to 16 mm, and check one labelled jar before the batch.
