Open contrasting serif with softly curved shoulders and a variable range
Artrend is a modern serif with open contrast, softly curved shoulders and a variable range across weight, width and slant, so one family can carry a title and a caption without a second typeface.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The A carries a thin apex and a broad foot, the r keeps a curved shoulder that opens rather than closes, the t crosses with a fine bar and the d holds a soft bowl, all with fine joins between thick stems and thin strokes. The curves are the character: shoulders bend gently instead of meeting at a hard angle, which is what keeps the face warm at display sizes while staying neutral in text. Because the family is variable, the same word can run light in a title and regular in a caption, and the sample shows the axes as a small feature list. The thin strokes are the limit at small sizes, so the light end belongs to headings. The dark silk ground, the cream ink and the tracked labels are presentation; the typeface is the word shown.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Artrend’s stroke geometry.
The open contrast gives a masthead presence at 80 pt, and the soft shoulders keep it from reading as a cold didone on a cover.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print an A4 cover: set the masthead at 80 pt across the top, set the issue line in the regular weight at 9 pt beneath, and keep 15 mm of margin so the thin apexes are not trimmed by the bleed.
Pre-production check
Thin joins below 0.12 mm drop out in offset; ask the printer for the minimum line and use the heavier weight on the masthead rather than the caption.
The variable range lets a section title run wide and a caption run narrow in the same face, which is what a long printed catalogue needs for coherence.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 210 by 280 mm page: set the section title at 54 pt in a wide setting, set the captions at 9 pt in a normal setting, and hold 18 mm between the title and the first text column so the contrast reads.
Pre-production check
Switching width mid-document shifts the line length; check the typeset page and keep the measure consistent rather than letting the caption column drift.
The high contrast makes a short report title read as an editorial mark, and the soft shoulders keep the cover approachable at 40 pt.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 210 by 297 mm report cover: set the title at 40 pt in the upper third, set the year in a 8 pt caps serif at the foot, and keep 22 mm of margin so the open counters stay clear of the paper edge.
Pre-production check
A single heavy word at the top can unbalance a report cover; check the cover at final size and pair it with a quiet line of equal optical weight rather than a second heavy line.
